Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 5: Botner Told The FBI Two Different WHAT?!

Alleigha Botner's cross-examination gave Caleb Flynn's defense room to challenge both her credibility and the context of the messages jurors have spent hours hearing. Botner testified that she initially told the FBI she did not believe Caleb murdered his wife, Ashley Flynn. During a second FBI interview, after she had retained an attorney, she said she did believe Caleb killed Ashley.

Defense attorneys also presented messages portraying Botner as jealous and deeply invested in Caleb leaving his marriage. She acknowledged sending roughly twice as many messages to Caleb as he sent to her, according to the questioning, and admitted she repeatedly wrote that she hated Ashley and wanted her gone. In another message, Botner referenced Caleb having taken her virginity and expressed resentment over the relationship.

Botner also testified that Caleb's description of his marriage did not always match what she observed. Ashley appeared loving toward Caleb, she said, and the couple still went to restaurants and on dates. Botner acknowledged Caleb may have been lying to her when he claimed to hate Ashley.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty in Ashley Flynn's killing. Prosecutors allege he staged the crime scene to resemble a burglary. The defense maintains a home intruder killed Ashley. Botner testified she has not been charged in connection with the murder and received no promise from prosecutors.
