Did a Cop Help Alex Murdaugh Hide the Murder Weapons?

At Alex Murdaugh's trial, prosecutors said he hid both murder weapons at his parents' home in Almeda and moved them in a blue raincoat. Police searched three months after the killings. The guns weren't there. A grand jury is investigating whether the weapons went to a different location entirely — into the possession of Police Chief Greg Alexander, a Murdaugh family friend who was at the Moselle crime scene the night of the murders. Alexander was acquitted of misconduct charges with the Murdaugh family's backing. Alex paid him $5,000 by check after the killings. Alexander gave conflicting accounts of when the check was written. He denies everything. On September 30, the defense filed a Brady motion alleging the state hid a witness statement about Alexander since 2023 — and asking whether prosecutors plan to change their theory before the April 5 retrial.
