A growing crowd online says Gypsy Rose Blanchard invented the Munchausen story to beat a murder charge. The medical file says otherwise. In 2001, Tulane tested Gypsy for muscular dystrophy — the biopsy came back negative, and Dee Dee went to another doctor. In 2007, neurologist Bernardo Flasterstein watched Gypsy stand on her own and wrote “Munchausen by proxy” in her chart. He never reported it. The file shows eye surgeries, ear tubes, a feeding tube into her twenties, salivary glands removed, and every tooth pulled — on a girl who could walk. Dee Dee told Rod Blanchard their daughter believed she was 14; she was 18. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, author of Nightbird, examines the documented harm, the doctors who looked away, and why part of the public refuses to believe what the records show.
