Gypsy Rose's Stepmother Said She'd Choose Jail Over THIS

On December 28, 2023, Gypsy Rose Blanchard walked out of Chillicothe at 3:30 in the morning, into her husband’s car and a Lifetime crew. On camera she called herself “a very shy person.” She’d said weeks earlier, “I think I would have been a whole mess if they would have just let me out of prison scot-free.” The prison she says kept her from being a mess handed her to the one place a person can’t be anything else. She went in at 23 having never bought her own groceries and came off every medication behind bars with no health problems. She gained fourteen pounds while other inmates lost weight. Inside, she got engaged twice and married once. She told a therapist, “She taught me to lie, and I don’t wanna lie,” while her family was still catching her in small lies. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, author of Nightbird, traces what prison built inside Gypsy and what it left undone.
