Lesley Davis met Sandra Birchmore at a Stoughton gym where both worked babysitting children. Sandra first mentioned Matthew Farwell when she was fifteen. Davis described her as “enamored.” Sandra had met Farwell through the department’s police explorers program. She was thirteen years old.
On Day 5 of Farwell’s federal murder trial, Davis told the jury about the last phone call — twenty-five minutes on February 1, 2021. Sandra never mentioned wanting to harm herself. Three days later she was dead.
Davis went to police with her mother and brother and named Farwell. Neither officer wrote it down. She called back. Sgt. Robert Kuhn also testified, identifying Farwell on surveillance video and describing the mask he wore as “very odd” for a man who despised wearing them. Prosecutors then showed the jury a call log entry from January 20, 2021 — twelve days before Sandra’s death — that a police chief didn’t learn about for three years.
