David Burke grew up in a religious household. He was homeschooled. He listened exclusively to gospel music until age 13. Within a few years, he went from Fortnite montages in a closet to a world tour and millions of streaming fans. His biggest hit was called "Romantic Homicide." His debut album was called "Withered." And now he's charged with first-degree murder, sexual abuse of a child, and mutilation of remains.

In the final part of a three-part interview series, psychotherapist Shavaun Scott sits down with Tony Brueski to examine the psychological profile that emerges when you place the art next to the allegations. Is there a clinical framework for understanding when dark creative expression stops being catharsis and starts being revelation? What does Burke's alleged total composure — including reportedly not reacting when publicly connected to a missing child on Discord — tell a violence psychology expert about his internal wiring? Does the trajectory from extreme isolation to extreme fame with no transition contribute to the kind of person prosecutors describe?

Scott is the author of The Minds of Mass Killers and has spent over three decades working in forensic mental health, trauma recovery, and the psychology of criminal behavior. She tackles the "young and dumb" defense directly — and explains why the combination of sustained alleged exploitation, calculated alleged motive, and the alleged methodical aftermath tells a story that has nothing to do with youth or immaturity.

And she speaks to the young fans trying to reconcile who they thought Burke was with who prosecutors allege he is — because that psychological wound is real, and it matters.
