Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 2: Hammond Testifies Ashley Was WHAT Before Shooting?!

Special Agent David Hammond gave jurors a closer look at the firearm-related evidence in the Caleb Flynn murder trial. Hammond, with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, testified about a swab taken from Caleb Flynn's truck and about the bedroom where Ashley Flynn, 37, Caleb's wife and the victim in this case, was found dead. 

The prosecution spent roughly the first two hours of Day 2 questioning Hammond, using his photographs to move from the home's possible entry points toward the truck and bedroom. The firearm evidence came after jurors had already heard how he documented the scene as a whole. 

According to Hammond, investigators swabbed the truck in the area where Caleb said his gun had been kept in the center console. His testimony put a specific location from Caleb's account into the evidence-collection process. 
Hammond also testified that 9mm shell casings were found inside the bedroom. He then offered an opinion about Ashley's condition when the shots were fired, telling jurors she was asleep or lying still. 

The prosecution alleges Caleb Flynn, 40, killed Ashley and carefully staged the home to resemble a burglary. The defense says Ashley was killed by an intruder during a home invasion and that investigators reached their conclusion about Caleb too quickly. Caleb has pleaded not guilty to all 11 counts. 

Hammond's testimony gives jurors a state investigator's interpretation of the physical scene, but it remains testimony, not a verdict. Hammond's statement about the shell casings describes what he says investigators documented in the room. His conclusion about whether Ashley was sleeping or motionless is his investigative opinion. Those distinctions matter because this trial will turn not just on what evidence was collected, but on whether jurors accept the meaning each side asks them to draw from it.
